How to follow a page in the app or on the web, turn push notifications off per page or entirely, and find missed messages under “Updates”.
If you like a page, you can follow it. You then get a push notification as soon as the owner announces something – for example a new video, tour dates, a stream or changed opening hours. Following is free and only needs a LinkHarbor account.
Follow a page
There are several ways:
- In the app on a page
- Open the page in the app and tap “Subscribe” in the follow bar. It then says “Subscribed”.
- In the app under “Discover”
- Search by name or handle and tap “Subscribe” on the result.
- On the page in the browser
- On public pages, the “Follow this page” banner appears at the bottom. “See how it works” explains the way into the app, “Maybe later” hides the banner for 48 hours.
- In the web dashboard
- Under “Subscriptions” you search for pages and follow them with “+ Follow”. See Follow pages and manage subscriptions.
Subscriptions from the app and the dashboard belong to the same account and appear in both places. You only get push notifications through the app, though.
You can only follow published, public pages. Private and password-protected pages can't be subscribed to.
Control push notifications
For messages to arrive, the app has to be allowed to send notifications. Allow this when the app asks, or later in your phone's settings. In the app itself there are two levels:
- Per page
- In “Subscriptions”, tap the bell next to a page: “Mute push for this page” or “Enable push for this page”. On a page you follow, the bell also sits next to “Subscribed”. You still follow the page; only your phone stays quiet.
- For all pages
- Under “Settings” → “Notifications”, “Push notifications” turns all messages off or on at once. Your per-page settings are kept.
At the top of “Subscriptions” you see how many pages you follow and how many of them are allowed to send push.
When a message arrives
When you tap a push notification, the app opens the page it came from. If the message refers to a specific link or block, the app scrolls there and highlights it with “From your notification”.
All messages also end up under “Updates”, sorted by day. That's handy if you swiped a notification away on the lock screen. New messages stay marked until you open the section. Messages from muted pages appear here too.
Unfollow
- Open “Subscriptions”
- Swipe the page from right to left
- Confirm the question “Unfollow?” with “Unfollow”
Alternatively, open the page in the app and tap “Subscribed” in the follow bar.
You then no longer get messages from this page. In the web dashboard you end a subscription under “Subscriptions” with “Unfollow”.
What the owner sees
- Your e-mail address is not passed on to the page owner
- The app shows every user how many subscribers a page has, on the page and in the search results
For creators: how to reach your followers and how many messages your plan allows is explained in Followers and push notifications.
