Which cookies and local storage entries LinkHarbor sets on your page, what for and for how long, and what does not come from LinkHarbor.
For your privacy notice, or to decide whether you need a cookie banner, you need to know what your page stores in your visitors' browsers. Here is the complete list of what LinkHarbor sets, with purpose and lifetime. All cookies are first-party cookies: only the address your page runs on can read them.
Cookies on your page
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime | When it's set |
|---|---|---|---|
| vid | Random visitor ID; lets the statistics count unique visitors and avoid counting views twice | 1 year | On the first visit |
| lh_ref | Remembers the website a visitor came from, so later clicks are attributed to the right source | 30 days | Only for visitors coming from another website |
| lh_utm | Remembers UTM parameters and click IDs from ad networks for attributing clicks and conversions | 30 days | Only if the address visited contains such parameters |
| lh_aff | Code of the page owner's referral programme; if the visitor later signs up for LinkHarbor, the referral is credited | 30 days by default | Only on linkharbor.com and only if the owner takes part in the referral programme; never on custom domains |
| lh_pv_… | Remembers a valid invite link to a private page | 24 hours | Only on private pages, after an invite link has been opened |
| lh_pw_… | Remembers a correctly entered password | 7 days | Only on password-protected pages |
| lh_age_18, lh_age_21 | Remembers the confirmation of the age check | 30 days | After confirming an age check on a link with “18+” or “21+” |
| lt_vid | Random visitor ID with the same purpose as vid | 180 days | On certain redirects and widget clicks |
The cookies contain no names, e-mail addresses or IP addresses. The cookies for private pages, passwords and the age check only contain a signed confirmation, so visitors aren't asked again on every visit.
Local storage in the browser
Your page stores two settings not as a cookie but in the browser's local storage (localStorage):
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| lh_embed_consent_… | Remembers that a visitor agreed to load videos with “Remember my choice on this page”; only applies to the one page where they ticked the box (its ID is part of the name) | Until the visitor clears the storage |
| lh_follow_banner_dismissed | Remembers when a visitor hid the “Follow this page” banner with “Maybe later” | The banner stays hidden for 48 hours |
What LinkHarbor doesn't set
- No advertising cookies and no tracking pixels
- No scripts from other providers' analytics or advertising services
- No fonts from external font services
What can come from other providers
Some content that you add to your page yourself is loaded directly from other providers. They can set their own cookies and process the visitor's IP address:
- Video embeds
- YouTube, Vimeo and Loom only load after the visitor has clicked “Load video”. Only then does the browser connect to the provider.
- Live widgets
- Depending on the integration, LinkHarbor loads the data on the server in advance, or the browser loads content such as preview images directly from the platform.
- External images
- Images that you don't upload to your assets but embed from a third-party address.
- Support button
- A click leads to a checkout at Stripe. See Support payments with Stripe.
Custom CSS may not load files from third-party servers. Your own scripts don't run on LinkHarbor pages.
Visitors' cookie settings
Visitors can delete all cookies and local storage in their browser at any time. The visitor ID is simply assigned again on the next visit; the visitor then counts as a new visitor in the statistics. How the statistics count with cookies is explained in How LinkHarbor counts.
The legal classification of the cookies from LinkHarbor's point of view is in section 4 of the privacy policy.
