Change and reset your password

Updated 1 November 2026 3 min read

How to change your password in your profile or reset a forgotten password by e-mail, with all the rules and what happens afterwards.

Your password protects access to your account and therefore to every workspace you are a member of. If you know your current password, you change it in your profile. If you've forgotten it, you reset it via a link sent by e-mail.

Password rules

  • At least 8 and at most 200 characters
  • No requirement for digits or special characters
  • When changing it in your profile, the new password must differ from the current one

Change your password in your profile

  1. Open “Profile” in the navigation
  2. In the “Change password” card, enter your “Current password”
  3. Enter the new password under “New password” and repeat it under “Repeat new password”
  4. Click “Change password”

“Password changed. You will be logged out…” appears. Shortly afterwards you land on the sign-in page and sign in with the new password. You also receive the e-mail “Your password has been changed”.

MessageMeaning
“The current password is incorrect.”The existing password is wrong
“New password invalid — min. 8 characters, must not be identical.”The new password is too short or the same as the old one
“Passwords do not match.”The repeated password is different
“Too many wrong passwords. Please wait a few minutes and try again.”After 5 wrong passwords within 15 minutes, password confirmations are blocked for 15 minutes; this also applies to changing your e-mail address, two-factor, transferring ownership and deleting your account

Forgotten your password?

  1. On the sign-in page, click “Forgot password”
  2. Enter your e-mail address and click “Request link”
  3. Open the e-mail “Reset your password” and click the link
  4. Enter a new password, repeat it and click “Reset password”
  5. Sign in with the new password

The link is valid for one hour and only works once. After requesting it, you always see the same confirmation, even if the address isn't registered, so nobody can find out who has an account. We send at most 3 such e-mails per address per hour. After a reset, too, you are signed out on all devices.

No e-mail received
Look in your spam folder and check that you entered your account's address. If you requested several times, use the link from the most recent e-mail. More tips in E-mails from LinkHarbor: overview and help.

Accounts with Google or Facebook sign-in

If you've only signed in with Google or Facebook so far, your account has no password that you know. You set one via “Forgot password”. After that you can sign in either way. You need a password, for example, to change your e-mail address, set up two-factor authentication or delete your account.

If you suspect someone else has access

Security e-mails from LinkHarbor, such as “Your password has been changed”, contain the “Secure my account” button. It opens your profile. If it wasn't you, do the following:

  1. Change your password immediately; this signs out all devices
  2. Turn on two-factor authentication
  3. Under “Callback & API”, check the “Connected apps” list and disconnect anything you don't recognise
  4. If you are an admin or the owner, also check the API keys there and delete unknown ones
  5. Under “Team & Invitations”, check who has access to your workspace
