Troubleshooting

Visitors see an error page

Updated 1 November 2026 4 min read

“Page not found”, “Link expired” or “Too many requests”: what the error messages on your page mean and what you can do about them.

Visitors see an error message instead of your page? Here you find every message that can appear on a LinkHarbor page, with its cause and what you or your visitors can do. The texts appear in the language of the browser; here they are shown in English.

“Page not found”

Visitors see “Page not found” with the text “The page you are looking for does not exist or has been moved.” This happens when there is currently no publicly reachable page at the address they opened. The most common reasons:

Never published
A new page can only be reached after the first “Publish”. See Publishing and versions.
Handle changed
After a handle change the old address stops working immediately; there is no redirect. Update bio links, QR codes and short links.
Page deleted
Deleted pages go offline immediately. See Delete a page.
Switched off after a downgrade
Pages above the limit of your new plan are deactivated. See Cancelling and downgrading.
Workspace suspended
If a payment is still open at the end of the grace period, the workspace is suspended and all its pages are offline. The owner also gets the e-mail “Your workspace has been suspended”.
Custom domain not active
On a custom domain, pages only appear if the domain has the status “active” and the routing mode fits the address.
Suspended after a report
If a page breaks the law or our terms, it can be suspended. See Reporting content and suspension.

If “Page not found” only appears after clicking a link, the link's bot protection may be behind it: the “Strict (block datacenters)” level also blocks requests from data centres, which some VPN services use. The message deliberately gives no reason. More in Rules per link.

Clicks on links on your page go through a short redirect so LinkHarbor can count them and apply the link's rules. This redirect address is valid for one hour. If someone copies the link address straight from the page, for example with a right-click and “Copy link address”, and passes it on later, the recipient lands on “Link expired” with the note “This link has expired. Please go back and click the link again.”

  • For visitors: open the page itself again and click the link there
  • To pass on a single link, use the small share button on the link; it shares the real destination
  • For you: share the address of your page or a short link, never a link address copied from the page

“Too many requests”

This message protects your page from automated traffic. It appears when more than 50 link clicks come from the same internet connection within one minute, or when someone enters the wrong password for a protected page more than 8 times within 2 minutes. After one or two minutes it works again. Normal visitors practically never reach these limits; when many people share one connection, for example on the same Wi-Fi, it can happen in rare cases.

Forms have their own limit. If someone sends too many forms in quick succession, the form shows “Too many submissions — please wait a moment and try again.”

Private and password-protected pages

Without a valid invite link, a private page shows “Private Page” with the note “This page is private. You need a valid link to access it.” Invite links have an expiry date; once it is reached, you need to create and share a new link.

A password-protected page asks for the password. If it is wrong, “Incorrect password. Please try again.” appears. The browser remembers a correctly entered password for 7 days. If you change the password, all visitors have to enter it again. More in Visibility.

“Starting up…” and “Something went wrong”

Both messages are temporary. “Starting up…” appears when a server is restarting; “Something went wrong” appears after an unexpected error, which our team is told about automatically. Reload the page after a few seconds. If the message stays for longer, write to our support with the address and the time.

Test it yourself

  • Open the address in a private browser window to see the page like a new visitor
  • Also test over mobile data instead of your Wi-Fi
  • Check in the “Publish” tab of the page editor whether the page is live
